BETWEEN CARE AND INVISIBILIZATION: AN OVERVIEW OF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES IN CAPS IN RESPONSE TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Violence against women constitutes a structural phenomenon that permeates social and institutional relations, producing significant impacts on women's mental health. Within the context of Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS), it is observed that the psychological suffering of women experiencing violence is frequently decontextualized from its social determinants, resulting in care practices marked by the pathologization and invisibility of gender-based violence. Given this scenario, the present study aimed to understand the perceptions and practices adopted by mental health professionals in the care of women experiencing violence in CAPS II, as well as to analyze the implications of these practices on the mental health of the users. This is a narrative literature review, with a qualitative and descriptive approach, carried out through non-systematic searches in national and international databases, encompassing articles published between 2014 and 2024. At the end of the selection process, 11 studies that directly addressed the interface between mental health, violence against women, and professional practices in the services of the Psychosocial Care Network were included. The results highlight recurring challenges, such as underreporting of violence, the absence of institutional protocols, weaknesses in professional training, and the reproduction of gender stereotypes, which contribute to blaming women and downplaying violence in relation to psychiatric diagnosis. On the other hand, successful experiences were identified, such as group practices, Individual Therapeutic Projects articulated to address violence, home visits, and matrix support strategies. It is concluded that incorporating a gender perspective and strengthening intersectoral articulation are fundamental for improving mental health care and guaranteeing women's rights in CAPS II (Psychosocial Care Centers).
