People management has shifted from a mainly administrative and compliance-oriented function to a strategic approach focused on human development, motivation, and organizational performance. This change is particularly relevant in road freight logistics, where service quality depends heavily on drivers and on the working conditions offered by carriers. This article analyzes how people management practices relate to job satisfaction and turnover among truck drivers in a road freight company located in São Martinho, Brazil. The study follows an applied research design with a mixed qualitative–quantitative approach, using descriptive and exploratory objectives and a case study procedure. Data were collected through an online questionnaire (Google Forms) with 15 questions administered to 30 drivers, ensuring anonymity and ethical handling of responses. Results show predominantly positive perceptions regarding operational safety, vehicle condition, and communication with supervisors, suggesting that consistent monitoring and support strengthen engagement. However, signs of concern emerge around recognition, appreciation, and pay, which may undermine motivation and increase turnover risks when perceived as insufficient. Drivers also emphasize the need for training and for structured dialogue with management, indicating that satisfaction grows with active listening, predictability, and coherence in people policies. The findings reinforce that driver satisfaction is a strategic asset for operational efficiency and long-term service sustainability, requiring alignment between HR practices, communication routines, and fleet management.
