Abstract

Access to information is an initial and crucial step in Oral Health Literacy (OHL), directly influencing the adoption of preventive and self-care practices among adolescents. Despite advances in communication technologies, previous studies have shown that, although adolescents have access to information about oral health, gaps persist related to the understanding, critical evaluation, and practical application of this content in daily life. In this context, it becomes essential to identify how these young people have received such information and what factors interfere in this process. This study aimed to analyze the initial psychometric properties of the Oral Health Information Access Assessment Questionnaire among Adolescents (AISBA), developed by the coordinator of the SBMoc Project and applied within the same scope. This is a methodological, cross-sectional, and quantitative study, conducted with 679 students aged 12 to 15 from the public school system in Montes Claros (MG). As a result of the psychometric analysis, the confirmatory factor analysis indicated structural adequacy of the instrument after item refinement, resulting in 35 questions organized into two dimensions: (1) sources and means of access and (2) content of the information received. Factor loadings ranged from 0.31 to 0.85, and internal consistency showed satisfactory values (ω = 0.77 and 0.90). The results showed that parents were primarily responsible for transmitting information, while the internet stood out as the most frequent means of searching. The findings reaffirm the importance of strengthening oral health literacy through systematized educational strategies integrated with school, family, and health services. The AISBA demonstrated initial evidence of validity and reliability for assessing adolescents' access to information related to oral health, configuring itself as a useful instrument for situational diagnosis and support for planning health promotion actions directed at the adolescent public.
