This article analyzes methodological approaches adopted in park studies in light of changes in communication processes driven by the internet and social media. The study employed a state-of-the-knowledge review using data retrieved from Elsevier Scopus. The search strategy combined the keywords “park,” “social media,” “sports,” “leisure,” and “physical exercise,” excluding the year 2024. Bibliometric procedures and content analysis were applied to categorize and interpret the literature. Results indicate growth in scientific output between 2017 and 2023, with increasing integration of social media data (e.g., Facebook and Instagram), enabling detailed, real-time analysis of visitors’ interactions with parks. The article concludes that these methodological innovations provide a more comprehensive and dynamic understanding of park use, while posing challenges related to integrating qualitative and quantitative evidence and addressing ethical concerns, especially user privacy. The findings highlight the need for robust infrastructure and interdisciplinary collaboration to advance research in this field.
