Abstract

Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a significant public health problem, affecting the mother, the baby, and the family relationship. Community Health Agents (CHAs), due to their proximity to families, are fundamental in identifying early signs. Therefore, a training session was held with CHAs at a Basic Health Unit (BHU), using active methodologies, dialogue, and educational pamphlets to guide them on symptoms, risk factors, and approaches. It was identified that the CHAs had limited knowledge about PPD, but demonstrated great participation and interest. The training expanded their ability to recognize warning signs, reinforced the strategic role of CHAs in home visits, and fostered greater confidence in communication with the multidisciplinary team. Difficulties were also identified, such as work overload and a lack of continuous training. Even so, the training contributed significantly to improving the early detection of PPD, strengthening humanized practices, and enhancing mental health care for postpartum women. The study reinforces the importance of maintaining ongoing educational initiatives and improving working conditions to ensure comprehensive and effective perinatal care.
