CONTINUING HEALTH EDUCATION IN THE PROMOTION OF BREASTFEEDING: BARRIERS AND STRATEGIES IDENTIFIED IN AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW.

Breastfeeding is an essential strategy for promoting maternal and child health, being recognized for its nutritional, immunological, and social benefits. In this context, Continuing Health Education (CHE) stands out as a strategic tool to qualify professional practices and strengthen actions aimed at promoting breastfeeding in health services. This study aimed to analyze, through an integrative literature review, the scientific evidence related to barriers and strategies of Continuing Health Education focused on breastfeeding promotion. This is an integrative review of qualitative nature, conducted through methodological steps including the definition of the guiding question, establishment of inclusion and exclusion criteria, database search, study selection, data extraction, and analysis. Searches were carried out in the Virtual Health Library (BVS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), MEDLINE via PubMed, and LILACS databases, using descriptors related to Continuing Health Education, Educational Technologies, Breastfeeding, and Primary Health Care. A total of 212 studies were identified, of which 13 articles composed the final sample after applying eligibility criteria and careful reading. The results allowed the organization of findings into three thematic categories: importance and benefits of breastfeeding; barriers in Continuing Health Education; and use of educational technologies as a strategy for professional qualification. The main barriers identified included work overload, organizational weaknesses, verticalized educational practices, and discontinuity of educational actions. Conversely, promising strategies included the use of educational technologies, active methodologies, and digital resources, favoring access to information and strengthening educational practices. It is concluded that strengthening Continuing Health Education, combined with the strategic use of educational technologies and participatory methodologies, can significantly contribute to improving care and expanding breastfeeding promotion in health services.
