The objective of this work is to present results on research related to the topic of aphasia, language assessment and intervention. Aphasia is a condition in which there is alteration of linguistic mechanisms at all levels, both in its productive aspect, not referring to speech production, or interpretative, related to the understanding and recognition of meanings, caused by structural damage acquired in the Central Nervous System, due to vascular accidents,

traumatic brain injuries or tumors. The research was developed at the Laboratory of Studies and Research in Neurolinguistics (LAPEN), at the State University of Southwest Bahia, Brazil, from the Space for coexistence between aphasic and non-aphasic people - ECOA. The theoretical-methodological approach is that of Discursive Neurolinguistics (Coudry 1988, Coudry 2008, Coudry 2018, Coudry & Freire 2010, Sampaio 2015) in interface with Historical-Cultural Theory (with exponents: Vigotsky, Luria, Leontev and Galperin). In this space, in addition to the participatory observation of how each subject acts socially with reading and writing, using different discursive genres (journalistic articles, fables, songs, videos, among others), records of facts from personal life, conversations and discussions about themes On a daily basis, both in individual and group support, we carry out language intervention. From the emergence of data and its analysis, it is concluded that language, amidst the instabilities of aphasic conditions, can and should be considered as a regulator of human behavior and that each aphasic subject uses discursive strategies when in dialogical and correct intervention, and thus reorganize their language after brain injury, seeking to establish meaning in their interactions.
