Abstract

The main objective of this study was to outline the therapeutic profile of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in different regional centers of the states of Minas Gerais, Goiás, and São Paulo. This is a descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional, and quantitative study. It was conducted in medication dispensing units of the Specialized Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance (CEAF) in medium and large-sized municipalities in the Southeast and Midwest regions, between November 2024 and November 2025. Eighty-three patients with a diagnosis confirmed by the McDonald Criteria and aged between 18 and 80 years participated in the study. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests (significance of 5%) were used via SPSS 21.0 software. The study showed a predominance of females (68.7%) and self-declared white individuals (60.2%). A high level of education was observed, with 38 participants having higher education. The relapsing-remitting form was the most common, affecting 75% of participants in one of the analyzed centers. Natalizumab was the most frequently used medication globally (42.2%), followed by fingolimod (31.3%). There was a significant difference in treatments according to location (p < 0.001); natalizumab showed widespread use in specific centers. Low adherence to non-pharmacological therapies, such as physiotherapy and nutritional monitoring, was identified. It is concluded that the identified profile corroborates the literature regarding the prevalence in young, educated women. The variation in therapeutic choice between regions suggests the influence of local protocols and the logistical availability of infusion centers. The findings reinforce the need for a more robust multidisciplinary approach beyond drug treatment.
