IMPACTO DEL USO DE FÁRMACOS PSICOTRÓPICOS (RITALIN®) EN LA SALUD MENTAL DE ESTUDIANTES UNIVERSITARIOS: UNA REVISIÓN INTEGRADORA

La transición a la educación superior puede constituir un período de estrés y dificultades de adaptación, con repercusiones en la salud mental del estudiantado y favoreciendo la aparición de trastornos como la depresión y la ansiedad. Factores como la baja frecuencia de actividades recreativas, la insatisfacción con el rendimiento académico y la falta de apoyo emocional se consideran riesgos para la salud mental. Además, la sobrecarga de actividades, las dificultades financieras y las altas expectativas incrementan el sufrimiento psicológico. La desatención institucional frente a las necesidades psicosociales de los estudiantes también contribuye a este escenario.El uso de psicoestimulantes, como Ritalina®️, ha aumentado entre universitarios —especialmente en el área de la salud— con el objetivo de mejorar la concentración y reducir la fatiga mental. Brasil fue el segundo mayor consumidor de Ritalina®️ en 2017. Estudios indican que muchos estudiantes inician el uso del medicamento sin prescripción médica, lo cual puede generar efectos adversos como insomnio, dependencia y aumento de la ansiedad. Ante esta realidad, el presente estudio tiene como objetivo caracterizar el impacto del consumo de psicofármacos en la salud mental de estudiantes universitarios, analizando sus efectos psicológicos y conductuales. Se trata de una revisión integradora de la literatura científica, con recolección de datos realizada en bases científicas como la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS), que incluye las plataformas Lilacs, SciELO y PubMed, utilizando descriptores controlados extraídos del DeCS (Descriptores en Ciencias de la Salud). Este estudio analizó el consumo de psicofármacos entre universitarios, fenómeno impulsado por la presión académica y la búsqueda de alto rendimiento. Los resultados señalan una elevada prevalencia del uso no médico de psicoestimulantes, como el metilfenidato, y de antidepresivos, especialmente entre estudiantes del área de la salud. Esta práctica, a menudo iniciada durante la graduación para afrontar la ansiedad y la fatiga, se asocia a riesgos de dependencia y efectos adversos. Se concluye que son necesarias políticas institucionales de salud mental para combatir este uso indiscriminado, promoviendo el bienestar estudiantil.
